| 900SAAB.com: Rear Swaybar Upgrade |
|
|
| One of the best upgrades I've done to my SAAB
900 was installation of a larger rear swaybar. Although a larger
bar may increase the tendency of the car to understeer, it also
substantially reduces the car's body roll and improves the feel of the
car, providing a more solid ride.
For this upgrade, I purchased a 22mm rear swaybar from GenuineSAAB. Installation is a snap, remove 4 12mm headed bolts, drop the stock bar, install the new bar and secure with the supplied bolts. On most 900's on the road, however, the stock bolts will be stuck. I twisted 3 of mine off, while attempting to remove them. This is not a problem as the swaybar mounts to the chassis via through-holes and breaking the original bolts allows the bar to be removed. Note: I wouldn't recommend installing a bar larger than 22mm on a street-car. Additionally, I'd strongly recommend installing at least a two-point subframe brace with this upgrade. |
