900SAAB.com:  Subframe Brace

I've always disliked the feel of the SAAB 900 when it hits bumps/potholes at cruising speeds.  The bump seems to transmit through the chassis giving a hollow jolt that rattles the dashboard and makes the front end sound like a child's pedal car.  Installing a subframe brace will change the front-end suspension response giving the car a very solid, confident feel when hitting bumps.  It is by-far the best improvement you can do the the front-end.

There are many aftermarket sources for the 2-point and 6-point subframe braces, however, I chose to build my own.  I have used two designs; the first featured square tubing with round ends which bolted to the subframe just forward of the control arms.  The second uses a simpler tapered-end design and bolts in the same location.  The benefit of the taper design is that it's much less time-consuming to build.

Here are two examples of 2-point subframe braces, both of which I built myself for my 900S:

Tubular end mounts (August 2006 design):

Tapered end mounts (June 2007 Design):

As mentioned above, I am currently using the tapered-end design, in 2-point fashion.  I plan to build additional legs and turn the tapered-end 2-point brace into a 6-point brace, in the next couple of weeks.  If that goes well, I'll design and build a version for the V6.  If you would like a brace or would like me to build a custom design, let me know!
