This is my 1994 SAAB 900S 5-door
hatchback. It has the 150 hp, 2.3l, inline 4-cylinder
mated to the 5-speed transmission and 178,000 miles. This
car is my daily driver; I commute each day from Fort Collins to
Denver, approximately 126 miles round trip (or about 32k miles
each year) and the car does it well, while giving me nearly 32
mpg.
I purchased this car from it's original
owner in May, 2006, for $800. Yep, $800. At that
time, it needed new strut mounts and drive axles. I have
done much, much more to it since. Here's a list of changes
made:
| Engine: 2.3L 4-cylinder
with Motronic 2.10.2 control. Completely
maintained with recent overhaul including new bearings,
rings, timing and balance shaft chains, head gasket and
bolt and all associated engine gaskets |
| Transmission: 5-speed SAAB
transmission with new seals, Sachs clutch and updated
shift linkage |
| Suspension: Updated 9-3
front suspension, including new control and stanchion
arms and revised 24mm front swaybar. GenuineSAAB
22mm rear swaybar. Bilstein HD shocks and struts
with Scantech strutmounts/bearings. 2007 SAAB 9-3
Linear 15" 5-spoke wheels with Yokohama Avid V4S 205/55
R-15 tires. |
| Exterior: Lemans blue exterior
with painted bumper tops and mirror caps (not pictured,
see gallery). E-code headlamp lenses.
Cleared turn signal lenses. Smoked repeater
lenses. 9-3 Black Pearl grille. 900SE rear
spoiler. Viggen antenna. SAAB Sport exhaust
stainless exhaust tip. Painted rear emblems (not
shown). |
| Interior: Updated charcoal
cloth interior with new seats and visors. Chrome
interior door handles. Leather shift knob, boot
and steering wheel. |
| Audio: Stock Clarion head
unit with Clarion DC-625 CD changer in trunk.
Kenwood 6"x 9" rear speakers and 6.5" door speakers.
Blaupunkt 4" dash speakers. Clarion AP4101 160W
amplifier driving rear and door speakers using RCA
preouts. Head unit amplifier driving dash
speakers. Aux-in mod used to provide MP3 support.
XM through FM modulation. |

This is my wife's 1994 SAAB 900SE
5-door. It has the 175 hp, 2.5l V6 mated to the 5-speed
transmission and 193,000 miles. Despite the poor timing
belt design, this car has oodles of torque and still gets 30 mpg
on the highway!
We purchased this car in August of 2005,
on EBay. It was grossly underrepresented and needed tons
of work. Originally a Massachusetts car, this vehicle
required replacement floorboards and various rust repair.
We are finally to the point where its in "good condition"!
Here's it's specs:
| Engine: 2.5L V6 with
Motronic 2.8.1 control. Completely maintained
|
| Transmission: newer
5-speed SAAB transmission with new seals, Sachs clutch
and updated shift linkage.
SAAB
Savior short-throw shifter (great shifter, couldn't
be happier!) |
| Suspension: Updated 9-3
front suspension, including new control and stanchion
arms and revised 24mm front swaybar. KYB
Gas-Adjust shocks and struts with Scantech
strutmounts/bearings. 2002 SAAB 9-5 Ronal 16"
5-spoke wheels with Pirelli P6 205/55/R16 tires.
|
| Exterior: Black exterior with
painted bumper tops, mirror caps and sideskirts.
E-code headlamp lenses. Cleared turn signal
lenses. Smoked repeater lenses. 9-3 Chrome
grille. 900SE rear spoiler (not shown).
Viggen antenna.
|
| Interior: Classicsoft new
tan-leather interior with new seats and visors.
Chrome interior door handles. Leather shift knob,
boot and steering wheel. |
| Audio: Stock Clarion head
unit with Clarion DC-625 CD changer in trunk.
Clarion 6X9 rear speakers and 6.5" triaxial door
speakers. JBL 2-channel 100W amplifier driving
rear speakers. Stock SE system driving door and
dash speakers (stock clarion amplifier). MP3
support through aux-in mod. |
